Book Review

Atlas Shrugged

I love to read.
I even love to find lists like: "Top 100 best books of all time" to see how many of the books I have read.
So when I saw the title Atlas Shrugged on almost all the lists I figured it had to be good.

I was wrong.

It is Fantastic!

It is a massive book, 1084 pages.
And it's not like Harry Potter with a relatively large type and double spaced, it's the itty bitty font and as many words as possible packed onto one page.
So I recommend getting the book on CD from the library and converting it to your iPod.

It was written in the 1950's but it is unnerving how incredibly accurate the parallels are to America today. Litterally in every way; economically, politically, morally, etc.

The novel's title is a reference to Atlas, a Titan of Greek mythology, who in the novel   is described as "the giant who holds the world on his shoulders".[3] The significance of this reference is seen in a conversation between the characters Francisco d'Anconia and Hank Rearden, in which d'Anconia asks Rearden what sort of advice he would give to Atlas upon seeing that "the greater [the titan's] effort, the heavier the world bore down on his shoulders". With Rearden unable to answer, Francisco gives his own response: "To shrug".

This book has sparked in me the desire to be the best possible person I can be.
To be a great mind.
To think and choose for myself.
It has inspired me to develop my abilities continually. It's what I am capable of.

"No one's happiness but my own is in my power to achieve or to destroy."
-Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, Part 3, Ch. 2

So I ask you,

Who is John Gault?

P.S. They have made the book into a three part movie, part one is available now on DVD.  Part two will be released in theaters this fall.  It is supposedly a "low budget" film, but I think they did an excellent job.
