Hook Brings Me Back

Don't you love when you are driving a long and a song comes on the radio, one you haven't heard in forever, and with it comes a flood of memories? You know, all the sudden you are back in your Junior year driving the carpool to school in your dad's truck that has a zero turning radius but you are jamming out thinking life couldn't get any better.
That happened to me today, a song came on the radio one that, given the station, is fairly common but it happened to be right at my favorite part in the song, I couldn't help it I just started grinning.
Do you remember "Hook" by Blues Traveler? It first debuted in 1994, which granted I was 8 years old at that point, but I had super cool older sisters so I was well up on my music game. If you know that song, you know which part I am talking about:

(The Best part starts right about 3:00 min)

I know every word to this part... well I may have gotten a few words wrong, and when I say a few words I mean I may have made up vitrually the entire song in my own rendintion. In fact I didn't even know it was called "hook" I though it was "the heart brings you back"
In case you want to check how close your lyrics are to the real lyrics:

Suck it in suck it in suck it in
If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn
Make a desperate move or else you'll Win
And then begin to see
What you're doing to me this MTV is not for free
It's so PC it's killing me
So desperately I sing to thee of love
Sure but also rage and hate and pain and fear of self
And I can't keep these feelings on the shelf
I trid, well no in fact I lied
Could be financial suicide but I've got too much pride inside
To hide or slide
I'll do as I'll decide and let it ride until I've died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of catchy little tunes
Of hip three minute ditties
I wanna bust all your balloons
I wanna burn all of your cities to the ground
I've found I will not mess around
Unless I play then hey
I will go on all day hear what I say
I have a prayer to pray
That's really all this was
And when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck
I don't rely on luck because
The hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook
on that you can rely
I found out some really interesting stuff on the song (this came right off wikipedia):
The song's title refers to a hook in music terminology: the catchy element or phrase of a song which makes it distinctive and memorable. The song's lyrivs assert that whatever the singer sings about if effectively meaningless, since the song's musical hook will keep listeners coming back, even if they are unaware of teh reason. In the introduction he sings "It doesn't matter what I say/ So long as I sing with inflection /That makes you feel that I'll convey/ Some inner truth of vast relection."
The song's own hook is the familiar harmonic structure of Pachelbel's Cannon in D.
I love song memories!

  2. Love that song! And as a matter of fact a song came on the other day which actually reminded me of our carpooling days with the five of us. Do you remember when we used to listen to Piano Man by Billy Joel and Whitney knew ALL the words and it was perfect cause the length of that song got us all the way to school? I don't know why but that song always makes me think of that...random. Those were the days. carpooling to school and you guys making me climb through the hole in the door just cause I was a lowly sophomore.....PS I miss you and want to play next time we are in UT
